Become an Assistant

Assistants are called to build friendships with people with developmental disabilities as well as with other Assistants and members of the L’Arche Winnipeg community.  Their primary responsibility is to create homes for our Members with a Developmental Disability that nurture their wellbeing and encourage their growth.

Assistant Role Description

In our homes, Assistants share their lives with 4 – 5 Members with a Developmental Disability and a team of 3 – 5 Assistants.  Each person has their own bedroom while the rest of the house is shared as a family home.  Each home has a House Leader who oversees the daily functioning of the house.

Assistants receive room and board as well as a modest monthly salary.  They receive two free days each week and 2 – 3 hours of personal time each day.  Vacation time is provided depending on the length of commitment.  Click here for more information about Assistants in L’Arche Winnipeg
