L'Arche Solidarity

L’Arche is part of the worldwide movement for inclusion of persons with disabilities – and all who are vulnerable and marginalized – as full members of their communities. With our partners, we are working to promote essential human values, contributing to a more diverse, creative and vibrant society.

The L’Arche Canada Foundation and L’Arche communities across the country raise funds for Solidarity projects in L’Arche communities that face extraordinary challenges due to economic hardship, political instability, food insecurity, natural disasters, and war. These communities live L’Arche’s mission – to make known the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities through mutually transforming relationships – with little to no public funding. Despite these challenges, they continue to show resilience.

Solidarity Music Nights

Join L’Arche Winnipeg Core Members, Assistants, Office Staff, Volunteers, and Friends for Solidarity Music nights featuring local musicians!

Our Solidarity Fundraising Events are a powerful example of the teamwork required to sustain L’Arche’s mission of inclusion and belonging for all. In “Solidarity,” L’Arche communities like ours fundraise to support L’Arche communities around the world who need more support: those who receive little or no government funding; who experience the insecurity of environmental crises; who live with the uncertainty of civil unrest or war. In times of need, these communities are supported by L’Arche International, who distributes the Solidarity Funds that are raised – in small but not insignificant part – by our Solidarity Music Nights.

All Ticket sales from these events go towards Solidarity, which supports L’Arche International communities around the world. Tickets can be purchased with cash or by cheque at the L’Arche Winnipeg office.

Upcoming Event

Solidarity Music Night

Thursday March 20, 2025

Join us for a delightful evening of music, refreshments, and good company with folk musician Cara Luft at the L’Arche Tova Cafe (119 Regent Ave W, Winnipeg, MB, Canada). Ticket sales from this event go towards Solidarity, which supports L’Arche International communities around the world.

Cara Luft is an award-winning musician, singer and songwriter, a plucky performer with an impish sense of humour and a founding member of two Canadian folk super-groups: The Wailin’ Jennys and The Small Glories. Brought up by folk-singing parents in a vibrant music community, Luft has a spirit that drives her to connect with people, and for this she is loved everywhere she goes. She is one of Canada’s hardest working musicians, armed with amazing tenacity, vision, energy and a contagious hilarity. To quote the roots magazine No Depression, “Luft has a rich tradition in folk music – it’s safe to assume that she knows her stuff – and upon listening it becomes quite clear that she is indeed a formidable songwriter and performer… [The] lovely Ms. Luft sets the bar for the talented few who’ll follow in her footsteps.”

Past Events

Annual Christmas Nativity

Every year, our L’Arche Winnipeg community gathers to retell the Christmas nativity story while raising money for L’Arche Solidarity. L’Arche Winnipeg’s core members embody the Christmas Nativity in a uniquely gentle and joyful way through an unconditionally loving Mary, a warmly welcoming Innkeeper and gracefully dancing angels.

At our last Christmas Nativity in November 2024, we raised over $2,500 for L’Arche Winnipeg and L’Arche communities around the world while celebrating the light of God’s presence with us.

At our 2023 Christmas Nativity, we raised $2,242.00 for L’Arche Bethlehem while celebrating God’s promise of peace.

This Is Me, August 23 2024

On August 23, 2024, an audience of over 200 people joined us for our biggest Solidarity Music Fundraiser yet!

Together, we raised over $4300 for L’Arche Solidarity while singing songs about love, self-confidence, and belonging. We couldn’t have hosted this joyful event without the generous support of our event partners, event sponsors, media sponsors, and volunteers.

Featuring Winnipeg singers and artists, this event was presented by Tricia Magsino Barnabe (A Million Dreams) and Joanne Roberts, in partnership with Kultivation Festival.

Thank you for celebrating  and supporting L’Arche communities around the world!
